Gene Targeting Strategy
The Sncg gene encodes s a novel member of the synuclein gene family is principally expressed in the brain, particularly in the substantia nigra. It was also found that it is widely expressed in cancers expecially in breast cancer ( human SNCG gene is also known as breast cancer-specific gene 1; BCSG1). In this strain, Cre recombinase expression is under the control of Sncg promoter. When crossed with a strain containing a loxP site-flanked sequence of interest, Cre-mediated recombination results in deletion of the flanked sequence in Sncg expressing cells.
Rats hemizygous for SncgCre gene are viable and fertile without any physical abnormalities.
